Compressed and compacted drawings

My drawings and paper textiles are physically combined in these small-scale pleated and folded works.

Graphite drawings on mulberry tissue paper are tightly compacted, the compression revealing new vistas of pilgrimages and journeys reflecting a love and passion with the natural world. The physical act of making these field landscapes and walking treaties is slow and thoughtful.

Pencil drawings have been compressed tightly by pleats. The resulting works contain new distorted marks, holding a life of their own and which are totally different and removed from the initial drawings made ‘in the field’. I love the fact that they are becoming less about the landscape and more about secrets and treaties and pilgrimages.

2B, 4B and 6B graphite pencils have been used on lengths of Mulberry tissue paper. Metres of paper have been compressed into pleated and coiled ‘objects’
